How to make money when you’re not doing it for the money…

How many times have you heard business owners say

“I’m not doing it for the money, I’m doing it to help people…:

A statement often met with ridicule and anger from business coaches, accountants and bank managers

As an SME, you’re made to feel that if you aren’t focused on the bottom line 98% of the time that somehow you aren’t running a real business or aren’t trying hard enough.

As a mentor who specializes in helping people create authentic businesses, I attract heart centered clients whose main aim is to fulfil their need to serve and make people happy and / or healthy.

The idea of using the traditional methods of ‘yell and sell’ to make money frankly horrifies them into inaction.

The more they try to force themselves to punt their wares, the more distressed and panicked they become, leading to crippling procrastination and self-doubt

Luckily, consumers are changing; there is a shift away from the corporate fat cats towards the heart centred helpful entrepreneur.

Buyers are starting to gravitate towards the purpose behind the profit and it’s a social movement gaining momentum.

Hey, that’s good news!

Being in business to help people is the way forward

If you do it right, an abundance of money will be the glorious by-product of loving your business and living your purpose.

Okay, let me show you the proven way to make make money when you’re not in it for the money

1. Understand your purpose behind your profit

Understand on a gut and cellular level WHY you do what you do.

‘Finding Your WHY’ is the fundamentally most powerful and liberating thing you can do for yourself and your business.

Until you understand WHY you do what you do, no one will really care, and no one will really commit.

Use your WHY as your centre, your ground zero. It will keep you authentic in everything you do.

When you work from your WHY, you shine like a light to those who need and will treasure you the most.

2. Profile your ideal customer

Spend time carefully deciding who you want to work for, or with.

Discover the customers who appreciate you and love everything you do.

Understand these customers on an emotional and subconscious level.

You’ll see that their needs overlap with your WHY. Spooky!

Listen to them, empathize with them, and learn what problems they have and how to solve them.

Love them and treasure them Make a conscious decision to ignore anyone else.

Not all customers are created equal

3. Create a cult not a customer base

Next to food and shelter, the strongest human drive is ‘to belong’

Human beings are programmed to want certain things. Chief among these are belonging and feeling understood and safe.

These needs are most often met through families, clubs and communities.

When companies begin to focus on building communities, it makes a powerful impact that forges strong emotional bonds.

We only take notice of things that we’re afraid of or feel connected to

The savvy buyer wants to align themselves with a cause, a purpose; your ideal customer will want to align themselves to your WHY, your purpose.

They will want to spread your message – share the love with their family and friends.

4. Understand community marketing

The modern customer is sick to the back teeth with ‘yell and sell’, we have learnt to tune out of 98% of the marketing we’re bombarded with on a daily basis.

The days of marketing the hell out of something to get sales by stuffing it down our throats whether we want it or not is coming to an end.

Community marketing is a strategy to engage an audience in an active, non-intrusive conversation, focused around their needs and centred in your WHY, your reason for helping them

If you’ve listened to, and helped your ideal customers, they’ll love you; they’ll want everyone they love to know about you. They’ll be raving fans and want everyone they care about to be part of your community

5. Write transparent emotional copy that alienates you from the masses and separates you from the status quo

Be authentic, be yourself.

Let customers get to know you, the real you deep down. Your ideal customers will love you for it.

Show and tell your ideal customers you’re different, like they’re different. Reassure them you can be different together.

Your transparency and openness will create a sense of meaning and cohesion between you.

6. Change your perception of money and selling. Deal with your limiting beliefs

Customers who love what you do want to show their appreciation.

They do this by buying stuff from you – giving you money.

Your community of ideal customers want to give you money as a form of appreciation for what you do for them. Let them!

Look honestly at your limiting beliefs about money

Show your appreciation for them and their money by listening, supporting and going the extra mile.

7. Scale the love, grow your community and do your thing globally

There will always be limitations if you just work 1-2-1.

The great thing about creating a cult of ideal customers who love everything you do is they can be anywhere in the world.

Investigate doing your ‘thing’ online.

It’s easier than ever to have a global presence, there’s no need for anyone to miss out on your help, love and support.

The #1 key thing is to ‘Find Your WHY’

You HAVE to understand WHY you do what you do as this will become your core message,

Your UAP (Unique Attraction Point) the thing that will make communites of people fall in love with everything you do or sell.
